Ladybird sighting!

Ladybird pictureA colleague spotted a Ladybird crawling around near his desk and was wondering if this was the beasty mentioned in a BBC News report on the “‘Deadly ladybird’ sighted in UK”. Having a digital camera to hand I took a photo for him which he sent to the appropriate Cambridge lab.

They obliged him with a reply: Thanks for sending the ladybird picture. This is a melanic variety of a native species, the 2 spot. The name of the form in sexpustulatus, reflecting the six red spots. I would suggest that unless you have already sent it to us, you release this outside during the daytime.

So there you have it, I wonder if it survived? :-). If you’re wondering where to go for a drink, by the way, check out the SMS Good Pub guide.
